Man Utd pull out of race for Mexico sensation despite six-month scouting mission

Manchester United have pulled out of the race to sign Mexican sensation Gilberto Mora.

United have spent six months monitoring Mora. Club scouts have also watched his progress at the World Cup, where Mora has helped co-hosts

Mexico

reach the last 16.

But the teenager’s impressive performances have also attracted strong interest from some of United’s biggest rivals. These include neighbours

Manchester City

,

Chelsea

Real Madrid

and

Barcelona

.

And while United are still keen to consider the

world's

brightest young talent, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not prepared to get involved in a bidding war for Mora.

The 17-year-old has just signed a new long-term deal with Tijuana. But the deal includes a buy-out clause of £20m, designed to secure him a move to one of Europe’s top clubs.

Mora, who shares the same agent as

Erling Haaland

, became the youngest player at the World Cup when he was included in the Mexico squad. He made his World Cup debut in his side’s win over

South Africa

in the opening game, becoming the youngest Mexican to ever appear in the tournament.

Mora starred in Mexico’s last 32 win over

Ecuador

on Tuesday, becoming the second youngest player to start a knockout game after Pele in 1958. He is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the

world

game.

But Ratcliffe has shown in recent times he will not be drawn into Dutch auctions when it comes to United targets. United have pulled out of talks to sign the likes of Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes this summer.

And despite Mora’s huge potential, United will not be held to ransom over someone who has made just 50 senior appearances for Tijuana.
