Tottenham are ‘closer than ever’ to agreeing a deal to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United after making a new offer for the midfielder.
Tonali is wanted by clubs across the Premier League with Arsenal , Manchester United and Manchester City all interested in luring him away from St James’ Park this summer.
United hold him in high regard while Arsenal’s interest is said to have stalled due to Tonali’s wage demands – with their focus now switching to his club teammate Bruno Guimaraes.
Tottenham have moved to hijack a move for the former AC Milan star however, seeing an offer of worth close to £80million rejected by Newcastle.
But a fresh offer from north London has left Spurs on the brink of getting a deal done.
Transfer journalist Gianluca di Marzio reports Tottenham ‘have never been closer’ than they are now to getting Tonali in the door.
The club have held fresh talks with Newcastle having made a new offer of ‘slightly above’ €100million (£86m) with Tottenham now awaiting Newcastle’s final response.
