Scotland Next Manager Odds: Who is the favourite to take over from Steve Clarke?
View Image

A Premier League manager and former Man United boss is priced as the bookies favourite to replace Steve Clarke after a hasty exit following Scotland's elimination from the World Cup . Despite a strong start in the group stage with a win against Haiti, the Tartan Army could not replicate the same momentum against Morocco and Brazil which saw them finish outside the top eight third-place performers.
Clarke’s decision to step down has shocked many, coming just weeks after he signed a new four-year deal and appeared set to take Scotland into Euro 2028 - a tournament they will co-host with England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
After seven years and 81 matches in charge, Clarke is Scotland’s longest-serving - and arguably most successful - manager, having guided the national team to three of the last four major tournaments.
However, Scotland’s showings at those finals were poor as they won only one of nine matches and failed to progress beyond the group stage on each occasion. With key players such as Andy Robertson and John McGinn now on the far side of 30, Clarke’s successor will inherit a difficult rebuild. Early betting has David Moyes as one of the frontrunners.

Moyes, 63, is currently in his second spell at Everton and has revived his standing after unhappy stints at Manchester United and Sunderland, highlighted by winning the UEFA Conference League with West Ham in 2023. Currently, he is one of the frontrunners at 3/1 with Sky Bet and 5/1 with bet365 .
Also among the favourites is Ange Postecoglou, who led Tottenham to Europa League glory last year at 7/4 with bet365 . The Australian, 60, has been out of work since a brief and damaging 39-day spell at Nottingham Forest last season, and has since worked as a pundit on ITV’s World Cup coverage.
Postecoglou brings experience in both Scottish and international football, having won five trophies with Celtic and the 2015 Asian Cup with Australia. Other names being mentioned include Millwall manager Alex Neil, Clarke’s assistant Steven Naismith and former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard.
