England could face more disruption due to the weather, with high temperatures threatening their World Cup quarter-final against

Norway

. The temperature in Miami is set to reach 34°C this weekend, with thunderstorms also predicted.

But alarmingly, due to the high humidity, the heat is predicted to feel more like 43°C when the match kicks off. The BBC's weather predictor is also forecasting thunderstorms shortly before kick-off and during the match.

FIFA had to delay the Three Lions' round of 16 match against

Mexico

by an hour. There are fears the match against Norway could face similar problems, with a cancellation or postponement technically an option, too, if the weather is too severe.

FIFA protocol is a minimum 30-minute delay due to thunderstorms, with the governing body adhering to rules set by local authorities during the tournament. That means if any lightning strike is detected within eight miles of a staidum, the match has to be stopped.

FIFA must follow the recommendations of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the

United States

. They state that players must leave the pitch and fans go inside, away from their seats.

Meanwhile, Officials will record WBGT (Wet-bulb globe temperature) readings 90 minutes before kick-off and again one hour before the match at venues considered especially hot or humid. FIFA's tournament regulations also state that: "Extreme weather conditions may warrant cooling breaks to be implemented during the course of a match.

"Such breaks will be considered on a match‑by‑match basis. Responsibility for implementing and controlling cooling breaks resides with the referee."

England found that out the hard way after having already arrived at the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City before they learned that they would have to wait another hour before their game would begin. A shelter-in-place warning was put in place after reports of lightning above the stadium.

They will, therefore, be ready for further disruptions. Those could now arise as soon as this weekend against Norway.

England also experienced such a delay the last time they were in Florida while preparing for the World Cup. Their final pre-tournament friendly against Costa Rica kicked off an hour late because of heavy rain and thunderstorms at

Orlando City's stadium, which is in the same state.

Thomas Tuchel told

ITV

at the time: "It gives us a little taste of what can happen in the tournament. We were aware of that before, now we experience it.

"It's no problem. It should not be an excuse to lose our mood or patience or to lose our hunger to play the game."

He reiterated: "No problem at all. We realised it when we were still at the hotel so it was easy we just said half an hour later in the bus and let's go.
