Manchester United are closing in on their first signing of the summer, with Ederson now expected in England this week to complete his move from
Atalanta
.
The deal has been lined up for weeks, with United agreeing a package worth £35 million, plus a further £3.8 million in add-ons, before the World Cup. The Brazilian midfielder is set to sign a four-year contract and gives Michael Carrick the first new face of a hugely important summer at Old Trafford.

United had delayed the final stages of the move while Brazil remained involved at the World Cup, keen to avoid any disruption during the tournament. That wait is now over after Brazil’s earlier-than-expected exit to Norway on Sunday, a result which brought a disappointing end to their campaign before the quarter-finals.
For Carrick, this is a significant early step. United have been determined to strengthen in midfield and Ederson has long been viewed as a player capable of bringing energy, power and balance to the centre of the pitch. The expectation is that he will be the first of at least two midfield arrivals before the new season begins.
There is clear belief in the 26-year-old’s suitability for English football. Andrea Pirlo said of Ederson:
