Man Utd news: Third midfield transfer identified as player set to undergo medical

Manchester United are wasting little time in the transfer market as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season. With Michael Carrick's permanent reign now underway, the focus is on building momentum before the Premier League campaign gets underway next month.
After prioritising reinforcements in defence and attack over the past two years, United's attention has now shifted to midfield. Casemiro's departure has left a significant void, while the futures of Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount remain uncertain, making further changes in the centre of the pitch a priority.
Although United have lost out on several key targets - including Elliot Anderson, Matheus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali - they are moving swiftly to identify alternatives. In fact, the club are expected to press ahead with three midfield signings in the coming weeks.
Deals for two of them have been agreed, with one of those players currently awaiting a second medical. With that in mind, here are the latest Manchester United-related transfer headlines.

Despite reportedly agreeing moves for both Atalanta midfielder Ederson and Chelsea's Andrey Santos in deals worth a combined fee of around £85million, United's midfield shopping spree isn't over yet.
Reports have now claimed they are also interested in signing Manu Kone, who has been impressing at the World Cup for France . The 25-year-old currently plays for Roma and the club would reportedly willing to accept bids in the region of £50m for the player.

The Frenchman wasn't at the very top of United's wishlist at the start of the summer but given the inflated valuations of Premier League targets such as Brighton's Carlos Baleba, Bournemouth's Alex Scott and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton - as well as Kone's fine form at the World Cup - the club could look to pivot.
Kone joined Roma from Borussia Monchengladbach, initially on loan in 2024 before he made the move permanent in a deal worth £15m in 2025. Should they secure a fee around the £50m mark, they would more than triple their investment after just one season in Serie A.
Atalanta and Brazil star Ederson is set to have his second medical with doctors from Manchester United . The Red Devils reportedly agreed a £35m deal, plus £3.8m in add-ons, for the 27-year-old back in June but confirmation of the transfer was pushed back due to Ederson's World Cup involvement.

But with Brazil eliminated, the midfielder is free to complete the final steps of the move. It's understood he had an initial medical test in the Unites States while on international duty but will conduct his second test in the UK.
Ederson has reportedly agreed a four-year deal at Old Trafford and will become the 11th Brazilian to play for Man United - unless Santos beats him through the door, of course.
