Harry Kane says his glorious winner against
DR Congo
was one of his favourite England goals. And
England's
Captain Marvel also relived
the celebrations afterwards
and believed that game can be a turning point for their
World Cup
campaign.
Kane
has already blitzed
Gary Lineker's
World Cup goal record, gone past
Pele
and has scored five in this tournament in the star-studded race for the the Golden Boot with
Lionel Messi
,
Kylian Mbappe
and Co. But Kane will remember his second strike as a defining moment of his career and was quick to share the moment with his team-mates afterwards.
Kane said: “It was one of my favourite England goals for many different reasons. But from a technical point of view, it was right up there as one of my best.
“It would have been easy to go backwards and just keep the ball, but
Anthony Gordon
found a nice reverse pass there. In that moment, I'm just thinking, 'how can I get a bit of space to get my shot off?'

“Whenever I'm around the box, I know if I get it where I want it, I can make the keeper work, I can hit the target. The way I practice, I'm used to being in difficult positions and getting my shots off. Once I saw that space and kind of got that ball rolling, I just had one thing in my mind.
“So it's like, okay, let's just try and whip this into that front corner as hard as possible. You see me kind of use my whole body to get as much power as I can. Ultimately the main thing was winning the game. That's what knockout football is - about getting the job done.”
Kane also says he is in the best form of his career and his mindset about going for goal was revealing. As was the hastily-arranged huddle after the game to ensure the whole team savoured the moment.
Kane drew the players together, shouted instructions into the huddle and told them all, above everything else, to enjoy the moment. He told
the FA’s
Lions’ Den show said: “It's something I don't really like to do in a public situation like this, because I always feel like talking to the group when we're in the changing room, when we're in the hotel has more of a powerful impact.

“But I just felt that going back on the last game, the last group game, I felt that we didn't really celebrate the moment well enough as a team. I think we take for granted, sometimes, what we achieve finishing top of the group.
“No matter who we play against. We've done an amazing job. It was more just a reminder before we went over to the fans just to say, 'look, let's enjoy the moment. Let's enjoy singing with the fans. They're here for us, hearing 'Wonderwall' again and what is it? 40 thousand fans whatever sing it back'. It's like, yeah, just memories you'll remember forever.
“So, I think that in particular was just for everyone, just to say that let's enjoy this all together. It's yeah we maybe could have played better and people expect us to win these games, but you still have to go and do it.
“And you still feel the pressure, you still have to perform under those lights and we all done that, so it's more just a reminder to everyone, let's just enjoy this, let's celebrate it because before you know it, now we're focused on the next game and it's hard to take it all in. So I think it was more just a reminder of that.”

Kane is also into history territory. His tally for club and country this season is remarkable and only Messi has scored more in a single season. But as ever, Kane was thinking about the team, the bigger picture and the chance for more success with England as well as his own goals.
He added: “This season for me, 72 goals so far and then hopefully a few more to go. It's almost 20 more than I've ever reached in my career today, and I've had some pretty good seasons up until now.
"I've had some good moments, but in terms of how I feel right now, I think just from my overall package, I feel as good as I've ever felt going onto the pitch. No matter the situation, no matter what kind of chance I get, I feel like I can score goals.
“And I just think it's a mixture of everything coming together at the right time. Always say, going into major tournaments, especially, you need to have a little bit of luck to go your way to physically be in the shape that you want to be in.
“It's not always easy when you come off the back of tough seasons. So this year it's been pleasing from that point of view, and for me it's just about the next one now. I am in a good space. I just want the next game to be there and it's kind of a good thing. I think the games are coming quicker faster.”
