Harvey Elliott makes Liverpool transfer decision as Andoni Iraola intention becomes clear

Harvey Elliott's Anfield future hangs in the balance ahead of a potential departure from Liverpool this summer. The winger reportedly has a 'deadline' in mind for when he needs to witness some change under Andoni Iraola before deciding whether to seek a move elsewhere.
Last season had the makings of a turning point for Elliott after he secured a season-long loan spell at Aston Villa . The 23-year-old appeared comfortable with the prospect of leaving Liverpool, even at that stage, given that the agreement contained an obligatory purchase clause after he made 10 appearances for the Birmingham club.
The switch failed to deliver, however, as Villa opted against signing the Reds star. Consequently, Elliott found himself in a difficult position and managed only nine outings for Unai Emery's side, with just four of those coming between January and May.
A fresh chapter has now begun at Anfield, offering Elliott and several other players the opportunity to wipe the slate clean. According to The Athletic , the midfielder will hold off until the new season's start date draws considerably closer before reaching a verdict on whether he needs to move on.

For his part, former Bournemouth chief Iraola is firmly committed to giving every member of his squad the chance to prove their worth. Yet while others are distracted at World Cup 2026, Elliott has a rare opportunity to give his new boss a closer look at exactly what he brings to the table.
"We've analysed Liverpool a lot. Possible weaknesses, the strengths," said the new manager earlier this summer. "I think we have a very good squad. I think there is still work to do, like normally in every club in this moment of the season. But right now, for me the thing is to value especially the players that we have right now in the squad.
"For me, and I will tell them, [they] are all new signings. For me, you are all new signings, and I think we have a lot of quality in our squad, and [I'm] really looking forward to working with them."

Elliott enjoyed a productive debut campaign under Arne Slot , registering a joint career-best of five Premier League goals on the way to lifting the title. Nevertheless, a wave of summer acquisitions in 2025 seemingly persuaded the player his prospects of regular first-team football were better pursued elsewhere.
That may yet prove to be the case by the time this summer's transfer window slams shut. Liverpool have less two weeks before regrouping for pre-season and Iraola may conclude the winger occupies a more central role in his plans than previous managers afforded him.
Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.
Liverpool will be relieved that certain stars are already done with their World Cup commitments. Germany's stunning elimination at the hands of Paraguay means Florian Wirtz will be free to enjoy a break sooner rather than later, while Cody Gakpo , Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk are also heading home after the Netherlands fell to Morocco .
Nevertheless, Elliott will have plenty of chances to demonstrate his worth over the coming weeks before any definitive decision is reached regarding his future. He'll be desperate to avoid repeating last season's difficulties, however, after an unfortunate contract situation all but robbed him of a full year's worth of progress.
