Aston Villa have been hit with a £570,000 by the Premier League for causing matches to kick-off late last season.

This punishment proceeds the Villans accepting responsibility for delaying the kick offs of either the first half or the second half on 10 different occasions last season. They were first financially penalised for this incident all the way back in August when they lost 1-0 to Brentford.

They received a £5,000 fine, but each new infringement since the match against the Bees resulted in the sanctions being increased. The last time they were punished was after March's 4-1 home loss to Chelsea which saw them be fined £150,000.

This fine followed another punishment which took place after February's 1-1 home draw with Leeds United . After both the first and second halves kicked off later than scheduled, Villa were fined £150,000. On the latter charge, the second half kicked off nearly two minutes beyond the original restart time.

For the Chelsea breach, Villa were fined £130,000 with another £20,000 lumped on top for, in the words of the Premier League disciplinary panel, "the aggravating nature of the club’s repeat offending”.

Out of the ten violations, eight are understood to have been between 90 seconds and two minutes later than the original scheduled time. Villa have accepted and apologised for all breaches and also pledged to be more compliant with the rules during the new season.

A statement from the Premier League read: "The Premier League and Aston Villa FC have entered into a sanction agreement after the club accepted it had breached Premier League Rule L.33 in relation to kick-off and re-start obligations.

"The breaches occurred in nine Premier League matches during the 2025/26 season. Rules relating to kick-offs and re-starts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs.

"It also ensures the broadcast of every Premier League match is kept to schedule. As required by the Premier League Rules, the sanction agreement has been ratified by three members of the Independent Judicial Panel."
