It’s been a

FIFA

World Cup

to remember for

Harry Kane

, who has scored some crucial goals and set some records for

England

in North America.

The

Bayern Munich

star has become the nation’s top scorer in the competition’s history with 13 goals, surpassing Gary Lineker’s long-standing record of 10, and is now England’s most-capped captain ever on 91 appearances with the armband on.

His successful penalty against Croatia means he has converted more spot kicks (5, excluding shootouts) than any other player at World Cups, and made him just the second

international at three separate World Cups, along with David Beckham.

Kane is one of only two players to score 20 or more goals across the

and European Championship, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo (24), and he is just the third European player to have scored in each of the last four major tournaments, along with Breel Embolo and Kai Havertz.

The 32-year-old’s brace against DR Congo would have been particularly sweet as it saved the

Three Lions

from an embarrassingly early exit in the round of 32. That took him up to ten knockout stage goals at major tournaments since Euro 2020, more than any other player in that period.

But it also wrote Kane’s name into the history books as he joined an extremely exclusive club of footballers who have scored five or more goals at two separate World Cups.

The former Spurs striker won the Golden Boot at Russia 2018, scoring six goals as captain at his first

. He could only score twice at Qatar 2022, but this summer he has already found the net five times as he looks to finish on top of the scoring charts once more.

Only five players have previously scored five goals at two World Cups, the first of which was Téofilo Cubillas for Peru back in the seventies. No one could match the attacking midfielder until Germany’s Miroslav Klose did so in the noughties on his way to becoming the competition’s all-time top goalscorer.

Klose’s compatriot and teammate Thomas Müller achieved the same feat in the 2010’s, helping Germany win the tournament for the fourth time in 2014.

Remarkably, this summer has seen three players join them on the list.

Lionel Messi

scored seven goals as Argentina won the

in 2022 and he already has six goals in the 2026 edition. France’s Kylian Mbappe was the Golden Boot winner with eight goals four years ago and, like Messi, has netted six times this summer.
