The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed that Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as head coach of the men's national team.
In a heartfelt statement, Nagelsmann revealed that he had spent several days reflecting on Germany's
World Cup
exit before deciding to step away from the role.
"I've done a lot of thinking in the days since our elimination and have consulted with trusted individuals both personally and within the federation. The decision was anything but easy for me,"
Nagelsmann said.
The former Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and TSG Hoffenheim coach stressed that his priority had always been the success of the national team and believes a change is now in Germany's best interests.
"My top priority has always been the team's success. After such a bitter disappointment, they deserve the chance for a fresh start."
Nagelsmann also took the opportunity to thank his coaching staff, the DFB, and especially the players for their commitment throughout his tenure.
He reserved special praise for Germany's supporters, acknowledging their unwavering backing despite the team's struggles.
"A special thank you also goes to the fans. You carried us, you trusted us, you gave us energy, even during difficult times. It truly pains me that we disappointed you and couldn't give you any more memorable nights of football at this
. You deserved so much more."
Nagelsmann's assistants Benjamin Glück and Benjamin Hübner have also resigned and will leave the German team alongside Nagelsmann.
The DFB is now expected to begin its search for a new head coach as preparations for the next international cycle get underway. Top candidate according to multiple media outlets remains Jürgen Klopp.
