Max Allegri is officially the new coach of
Napoli
after finally managing to terminate his contract with
Milan
by mutual consent, over a month on from his dismissal.
The decision had been in the air
and was confirmed by
this morning.
“SSC
would like to welcome Massimiliano Allegri as our new first team head coach. Allegri has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2029,”
said.
“After a long playing career – which included a stint with
during the 1997/98 season – Max Allegri began his coaching journey in the 2003/04 campaign with Aglianese. In 2007/08, he led Sassuolo to their first-ever promotion to Serie B and also won the Serie C1 Super Cup that same year. A few months later, he made his
Serie A
coaching debut with Cagliari, finishing the season in ninth place and winning the Panchina d’Oro award.
“In 2010, he joined
, winning the club’s 18th Scudetto and sixth Italian Super Cup. From 2014 to 2019, he managed
Juventus
, winning five consecutive league titles, four consecutive
Coppa Italia
trophies and two Italian Super Cups. During this period he also led the Bianconeri to the Champions League final twice. After a two-year hiatus, he went back to manage
, winning his fifth
in 2024. Last season, he was back in the dugout at
, finishing the campaign in fifth place.

Allegri was also welcomed by the usual tweet from club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Allegri had only taken the
job last summer, but was sacked the day after fumbling fourth place to miss out on the Champions League qualifying spots.
Allegri was fired along with director of sport Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and CEO Giorgio Furlani as part of a mass clear-out at San Siro.

He was quickly able to agree terms
with
President Aurelio De Laurentiis to take over from Antonio Conte, who walked away following two years where he won the Scudetto and the Supercoppa Italiana.
However, reaching a deal with
to terminate the existing contract proved trickier, as weeks of talks were required due to the Rossoneri’s management overhaul.
Now the coach is free to put pen to paper on a three-year contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The 58-year-old has had two different spells at
, in 2010-14 and then again in 2025-26, as well as with
from 2014-19 and then 2021-24.
