Manchester United
forward
Layla Drury
has stressed that she is “excited” for the opportunities that lie ahead, as she commits her future to the club.
A
recent report
covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Drury was on the brink of putting pen to paper on an historic new United contract.
Drury made her United debut earlier this year, featuring in a 5-0 demolition of Burnley. She made her first-team bow at 16 years and 220 days, breaking a record that was previously held by Lauren James, which had been standing since United’s first match after reformation in 2018.
The teenager also found the back of the net in that match, becoming United’s youngest-ever goalscorer.

Drury
made seven appearances for United across all competitions. Internally, United regard her trajectory as a flagship example of their strategy to build a financially self-sufficient women’s team by prioritising the development and integration of young academy graduates.
Now, United have confirmed that Drury has signed her first professional contract. Her new deal runs until June 2029.
Reacting to the news,
Drury said
, “Growing up as a
fan, signing a professional contract with the club was always the dream, but now I know it’s only just the beginning.”
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone in the Academy who has supported me throughout my development, so many people have played a huge role in helping me grow into the player and person that I am today.”
“This is the perfect club to support me in reaching my potential and I’m really excited to take every opportunity that comes my way.”
Matt Johnson, Director of Women’s Football, remarked, “We are all really proud of Layla’s development. She possesses all of the necessary technical attributes and the right work ethic to represent
, and reach the highest levels of the game.”
“It is a really exciting time for the club as we continue to enjoy the rewards of the outstanding work taking place throughout our Academy and the long-term commitment we have made to developing homegrown talent.”
“Everyone involved should be immensely proud of the role they have played in creating pathways that enable our young players to thrive, as we continue to strengthen our Academy and establish a world leading youth development programme.”
Drury will wear the number 27 shirt.
