Five pundits have given their say on who is the better striker out of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland - and only one selected the England captain. Both forwards have been finding the net with impressive regularly at the World Cup , with Haaland currently ahead of his rival by a single goal.

The pair will face off in the quarter-finals on Saturday as England battle Norway for a place in the final four of the tournament. The Manchester City striker was on target as his country dumped out Brazil last Sunday. Haaland scored a brace in the last 10 minutes of normal time to put Norway 2-0 up before Neymar Jr grabbed a consolation goal from the penalty spot dying seconds.

Meanwhile, Kane scored once in England's 3-2 thriller with Mexico as the 10 men battled the fiery Azteca atmosphere for a date with Norway. Jamie Carragher gave Kane his flowers but admitted that Haaland is something the Premier League - and as such, the World Cup now - has never seen before. Speaking on Sky Sports Super Sunday last October, the ex-Liverpool defender said: " I think we're watching the greatest goalscorer to ever play in English football.

"I honestly can't remember Jimmy Greaves, Dixie Dean and all those players from years ago. But I think of Gary Lineker , Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Ian Rush for my club Liverpool .

"There's a difference for me between a great centre-forward or striker and a goalscorer. I think what we're witnessing now is something we've never seen before in our game and don't forget, this is a club where the goalscorer beforehand was Sergio Aguero, one of the greatest we'll ever see.

"This is on a completely different level to Aguero. He's the best."

In conversation with BOYLE Sports and Footy Accumulators ’ podcast - No Tippy Tappy Football - Sam Allardyce confessed that he would swap one striker for another ahead of England's clash with Norway. The former national team boss explained: "I would pick Erling Haaland over Harry Kane.

"Haaland has no right scoring as many goals as he does for Norway, who are generally the underdogs. England are usually one of the top five teams in the world , while Norway are much further down.

"We know he can score at club level, but he’s now doing it at the World Cup and he proved exactly how good he is again with his two goals against Brazil. He seems to have a knack for being able to score through defenders’ legs, like he did for his second goal against Brazil.

Who do you think is the better striker out of Kane and Haaland? Let us know in the comments below .

"He’s great at drifting in behind defenders as well. I think he watches them while the play is still going on. He sees something developing and looks at the centre back to see what he’s doing. Clever players not only look at the ball, they also look at the defenders to determine what run they’re going to make."

Glenn Hoddle is the only pundit who has went against the grain and selected Kane over Haaland in the 'best striker in the world' conversation. The question was posed on TNT Sports' social media accounts and 62% of voters believed the Bayern star stood tall above the rest.

When asked the same thing during Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea last season, Hoddle said: "I agree with them because it is not only his goalscoring abilities, it is what he is, he is a No. 10 as well. He can come off and hit passes.

"Erling Haaland, you can say Mbappe, there are some wonderful players still out there, but they have not got the all-round ability that Kane has got. He scores goals and he makes and creates goals.

"Our problem with England and [Thomas] Tuchel, if he gets injured, we’re struggling a little bit, let’s be fair."

Gus Poyet agreed with Carragher and Allardyce that Haaland is the more prolific goalscorer. The former Chelsea star told Midnite that while the duo have different footballing profiles, the Norwegian will smash records well beyond Kane's reach.

He said: "They're different players, one is a top goalscorer, Haaland will always be there in the box, waiting for a cross, mistake, pass, like a proper killer. Kane is a great football player, especially in the last few years, he's started dropping and making things happen.

"Kane is an all-round football player, but I think Haaland is clear, you just know he's going to score even if he touches the ball five times in a game.”

"I don't know if people remember, wherever you were, if you saw Real Madrid score, you knew it was Ronaldo, Barcelona score, you knew it was Messi, now it's Haaland! You watch any game, you hear Man City score, you know Haaland has scored.

"He's young as well, he's going to beat all the records in football, he's going to beat everybody, he's amazing. With Haaland and Mbappe now, in the next few years people will forget about Messi and Ronaldo, they're becoming so big and influential in the game it's crazy."

Kris Boyd closed the argument by picking the City striker over Kane before they face off on Saturday night. The ex-Scotland international believes the Bayern forward is the better "all-round player" but nobody comes close to finishing than his Norwegian counterpart.

Boyd told The Sun: "I made a career out of scoring goals. Plenty of folk said I didn’t do much else. But that’s why I rate Erling Haaland the best in the business. The premier goalscorer in the game, the most clinical marksman at the World Cup.

"And it’s why I’d take him ahead of Harry Kane. I was in New Jersey on Sunday night when Haaland’s dazzling double knocked out Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil and ended Neymar’s cap career. I’ll be in Miami when the Norway legend goes toe-to-toe with England captain Kane.
