Mason Greenwood on verge of £36m move to Fenerbahce - with Man United set for sell-on cash more than four years after he last played for the club
Former
Manchester United
forward
Mason Greenwood
is set to join Fenerbahce from Marseille - with the Red Devils due a chunk of the fee.
Greenwood signed for the French side for £30million two years ago after being cut from the United first team when he was arrested and charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022, before charges and the case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew. He has denied any wrongdoing.
He controversially linked up with now-Tottenham boss
Roberto De Zerbi
in
Ligue 1
, scoring 48 goals in 81 games across two seasons.
Now, though, he is moving on again, joining Turkish side Fenerbahce for £36m. Manchester United are due an undisclosed sell on fee, with French sources indicating that number is in the region of £10.2m.
Fenerbahce are regular runners-up to Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig, but manager Ismail Kartal will be hoping arrivals such as Greenwood will help them win a first league title since 2014.
Greenwood last played for United in January 2022, which is when the allegations surfaced.

The charges against him were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following the withdrawal of key witnesses, but the club continued its own internal investigation into a series of harrowing images and audio recordings.
In August 2023, it was announced he would leave by mutual agreement after it was decided he should resume his career away from United. He had spent the rest of the 2022-23 season on loan with Getafe in Spain.
That came despite the club initially deciding to bring Greenwood back into the fold before performing a U-turn following significant backlash.
Manchester United's partial owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had also left the door open to Greenwood returning after taking a 25 per cent stake in the club.
'It's a fresh decision,' he said despite the club previously ruling out a return. 'I can talk about the principle. I am not going to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it. The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forwards.
'You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don't always have the guidance they should have.
'What we need to do when have issues like that is understand real effects, not the hype, then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club's values. That's what we need to do and that's how we will deal with it.'
In total, Greenwood, now 24, made 129 appearances for United after graduating from their academy, scoring 35 times. He also made one senior appearance for the England national side.
