Arsenal now have a clearer picture of the fee required to secure Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. While Andrea Berta is not thought to have been in direct contact with Newcastle yet over negotiating a potential move, a formal bid does appear likely to materialise.

Claims surfaced on Wednesday suggesting that Guimaraes had indicated his intention to leave Newcastle, with reports that the Brazilian had informed the Magpies of his ambition to join Arsenal .

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a possible £60m swoop for Guimaraes throughout the summer transfer window as they seek to bolster their squad ahead of defending their Premier League title.

There has now been a fresh development regarding Guimaraes' future at Newcastle and Arsenal's strategy to bring the 28-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.

The Daily Mail have reported that a £75million bid could force progress on a deal to take Guimaraes to Arsenal, with further discussions anticipated following an initial proposal that was rejected by Newcastle.

The report also states that there is "astonishment" at Newcastle that Berta, Arsenal's sporting director, has yet to make contact with the Magpies regarding a deal for Guimaraes.

Guimaraes remains contracted to Newcastle until the summer of 2028, and it remains uncertain whether Arsenal can strike an agreement to sign the Brazil international before the transfer window closes.

The midfielder recently featured for Brazil at the World Cup in North America, helping the Selecao advance to the last 16 of the tournament before being knocked out by Norway .

Reports from The Athletic have previously revealed that Arsenal had a £55million bid for Guimaraes turned down by Newcastle, with indications that the Gunners could go as high as £60million for the midfielder.

Arsenal are expected to bolster their midfield options on the back of their Premier League title triumph, while also seeking to add reinforcements to their attacking ranks.

Newcastle have already experienced a hectic summer window in terms of departures, with Anthony Gordon departing St James' Park to link up with Barcelona in a deal worth £69m.

Sandro Tonali also headed for the exit door at Newcastle this week, completing a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £100million with add-ons.

Whether Newcastle would sanction Guimaraes' departure to Arsenal, having already lost two key figures at the club in the same transfer window, remains very much to be seen.
